Since Chuck and I know what Honeysuckle is really happy doing is walking through the woods, we planned a day centered around hiking. Chuck took us to Quartz Lake and we began by having a picnic at the end of a long pier.
Lunch
Our view from the picnicking grounds. Try not to focus on the bird poo.
Picnic is over
Quartz Lake and the area surrounding it, is very “Alaska,” therefore gloriously beautiful.
Once we set ourselves on a gravel trail, Honeysuckle was given the official leader title and embraced it by refusing to allow either one of us get in front of her path.
Once we set ourselves on a gravel trail, Honeysuckle was given the official leader title and embraced it by refusing to allow either one of us get in front of her path.
This was not the path we took.
Once, when we began to doubt her leadership and the route she was taking, she pushed her way in front of us, put on a serious face, and said, “A leaders got to do what a leaders got to do.” and insisted that we follow her. We did. And really and truly her path turned out to be better than what we had planned!

Claw Marks
Honeysuckle in a wild little haven she found.
A strange little mushroom along our way.
We went down that dirt path to the pond. It was very steep.
Impending rain gave us a good reason to turn back early enough to avoid having to carry Honeysuckle and her little short legs back the entire way. She only tired out near the very end of the trail and hitched a ride on her Daddy’s shoulders the rest of the way. Since I had the camera, I ran on ahead to get back to the truck before the rain hit. We all made it without getting wet and sat for a while in the truck with the wind whipping around us. It was so pleasant.

I truly enjoyed the blog.I feel better now, But I still miss you all alot, Charley; I left your sweet message on my answering machine. Iwish I could have a hug;My love; Big Mama
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. I will also leave my sweet message from Charley on my voice mail. I've listened to it several times today already. I also am missing Charley hugs and kisses. I'd take one from you too Hayley.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds really wonderful. I'm, per usz, disconcerted by the "claw marks" (COME ON!), but everything else seems so, well, adventurous--despite your recent declaration: "Enough with the adventure posts". I LOVE these pics. Charley is so cute. I see that she is a young lady after her own Aunt Sunny's heart--she sports a fanny pack without shame. I've been waiting on somebody to jump on my fanny pack boat. Who knew it would be my babyniece, Charles the Great? Tee-hee... Seriously, tho, she really looks like she is living a true-to-life adventure badge thingy that ya'll used to do. This is the ULTIMATE patch for her, and she seems to fit the bill perfectly. I seriously sit and wonder in awe what she could grow up and be in this world (and beyond).. because I think you are breeding a very rare individual... a Godly version of Jane Goodall or Lisa Ling, maybe? Or possibly even better yet, someone who fights for baby animals, like her alt ego, Wonder Girl. Pretty cool. Oh, "A leader's gotta do what a leader's gotta do"? Up there in Top 10 Fave Charles Quotes. BTW, Quartz Lake totes looks like the Coosa. Just sayin.
ReplyDeleteI know...claw marks. It's ridiculous. Yes the fanny pack suits her perfectly. The only problem was that she didn't stop eating the entire time. It seems some of her fits have been when we are out and she wants food and I have none. I didn't want to take a chance so I stuffed it with Teddy Grahams. Next time I will go with carrots or something. She DID earn a badge that day (but I haven't presented it...OR found it). The "Leader" badge. It is a very big deal. Quartz Lake is big like the Coosa but there are some subtle differences surrounding the area (i.e. claw marks).
ReplyDeleteOh you miss ME too Ma??!!! Just kiddin.'

ReplyDeleteMunner (my mother in law) left a MONUMENTAL comment!!! I've been told that my sister in law found a connection in the yard down under a tree and they gave her the laptop and and chair and she sat out there reading the blog for 3 HOURS!! Wow. I never thought I see the day! I LOVE it! Thanks sister in law.
ReplyDeleteOh - we had the best time looking at the blog with 'Munner' (for anyone who is wondering, that is a twisted version of 'mother' that my first son called her 'Guy's Mudder' and then my youngest son shortened it to just Munner, when he began talking). I will send you pictures in the morning on email - they may even be blog worthy:-) I think you will find it very funny!!! We had a cord ran out from the boat house, the laptop sitting on a stump for a bit & we were right there by the water looking at your blog! And she learned to use the laptop pretty good too!!! She seemed to feel better about AK after reading the blog.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sunny, Quartz Lake looks a lot like the Coosa from the pics. Munner, Guy and myself were saying that all weekend - especially on our boat rides.
I am not feeling too good about these bear claw marks either, Hayley. You guys better stay safe up there!!!
The claw marks kind of unnerved me, sorry to say. But...yay for adventure!
