Around here people understand that summertime equals road construction. As a matter of fact, the road crews have been busy just about everyday since we arrived.
Berlina The Jungle Girl/Princess and I walked to the end of the driveway the other day so that we could get a picture of the Alaska Highway that runs in front of our cabin.
This way to town.
This way to everything south of Delta Junction (and all of Canada and the rest of the United States).
Often, big water carrying trucks travel up and down the highway spraying water onto the road to keep the dust down. It helps but the dust still flies.
When leaving the house, we almost always have a wait of 20 minutes. Sometimes we have to wait 20 minutes before we can even get out of our driveway.
I'm not complaining though. I realize it is for the greater good. We aren't usually in a real big hurry anyway.
A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that instead of asphalt there was dirt surrounding the U-Suds-It type of car wash. They did get that area paved after a few days, but there is still a section in the parking lot that is not paved and covered in dirt. If you washed your car there you'd have to travel over that section before you met the asphalt road.
I actually have a genuine excuse not to wash the truck.
The carwash next to dirt paragraph is really ironic to me. It's like a gym that's built next to a Dunkin Donuts. :)
ReplyDeleteYes it is Katie. Yes it is.
ReplyDeleteHow long is the walk from the cabin to the road? btw...it's time to change your "about" page now that you are happily located in Alaska.
ReplyDeleteWelll.... You COULD get you a bucket of soapy water and a hose. But who does THAT anymore? It's like doing your own nails! (jk, jk). Then it would look pretty in your driveway, but I guess you couldn't really go anywhere without it getting nasty again, so... nevermind.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't far Celeste. Only about 50 yards I'd say. Yeah, I need to change that.
ReplyDeleteYes sister getting it dirty immediately following was the point. Apparently I wasn't clear about that. And do you really think I would pay a machine to wash the truck?? No sister. I am way to cheap for that these days.
