We have loads of Christmas decorations. Loads.
In the in-laws basement.
In Georgia.
Before numerous family members heard this news and sent boo-coos of new ornaments, hand-me-down ornaments, and a truckload full of crafts in order to make ornaments, in Alaska, we had nothing.
Well, we did have some old sheet music.
It was left over from the time I covered the walls of the Mill Village hallway with it.
It was like a commercial for Mod Podge down that corridor.
Anyways.
I took that sheet music and cut some stars free hand, while Chuck was busy cutting out stars from cardboard and Jingle Bells was stringing fruit loops onto a strand of yarn.
(More on those projects later.)
When I had a big stack of miscellaneously shaped stars, I took them to my sewing machine.
Then, I simply sewed them all together.
Jingle Bells stood by my side and excitedly collected the growing garland as quickly as the sewing machine could spit it out.
Then there was a big scene that involed boosting, climbing, and balancing (MAN would a little step ladder make life easier!), until we finally had a touch of Christmas cheer in the cabin.

I love it! Quite creative and so festive! Much more beautiful than store-bought stuff, because you came up with the idea and made it with your own hands.
ReplyDeleteVery festive indeed!

You will never look at Christmas the same way again. What doesn't kill you will only make you better, happier, tougher and more appreciative. Homemade decorations are the best anyway. I can't believe I got to hear Christmas Carolers at your Alaskan door while on Skype with you last night. What a wonderful thing to have happen. I got to hear Jeff and others giving Charley an Easy Bake oven. I love Skype. It was the next best thing to being there. It warms my heart that you have such good friends in Delta Junction. Beautiful garland.
ReplyDeleteIt's Beautiful!! and if it was Christmas sheet music then you can sing beneath the stars!! :)
ReplyDeleteChristmas decor IS the best handmade. It's very true. And it's a great way to bond with your child and have girl time. :)
ReplyDeleteLike that idea.. Really cute garland, sister. Apparently you know how to sew pretty well these days. I USED to not be too terrible at it, thanks to Nanny. I got a new sewing machine about 11 years ago and still haven't figured out how to thread it, sooooooooo maybe you could help me with that next time you are here. Thanks. K bye.
