"The Santa Claus House"
THE NORTH POLE
83 miles from Delta Junction, Alaska
We've been there.
This here is Santa.
This is as close as we got to him.
Holly Berry was "too shy" to sit in his lap this year. It came as an absolute shock since, as most of you know, if Holly Berry has a shy bone in her body it is only the size of a stirrup.
(The stirrup is the smallest bone in the body and is located in the eardrum.
You can read more about it on www.google.com)
We found the "The Santa Claus House" to be much like (ok, exactly like) a gigantic gift shop. We made it out with all of our dollars in check. Shew.
A guy offered to take our picture with this big stuffed moose. It took him a while to figure out how to work the camera. It was pretty awkward. But nice.
I've heard Santa keeps his reindeer outside "The Santa Claus House" but we didn't see them. Of course, we didn't spend a lot of time circling the building either. It was pretty cold that day.
While "The Santa Claus House" is a really fun attraction, it should not be mistaken for the real North Pole. The real North Pole is a magical place. The real North Pole does not contain the only McDonald's we visit once a month. No one can ever really drive to the real North Pole (no one besides Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves) and no one ever should.
We told Holly Berry that North Pole, Alaska was just a city named "North Pole" and that Santa was visiting much like he visits other places in the world. Worth the trip? Yes.
Check it out for yourself.

Charley is definitely making her most shyest of shy faces ever in that first pic of her.. haha! I don't blame her.. That Santa intimidates ME. He looks like the Mac Daddy of all Santa Clauses. Like, REAL 'n stuff. He definitely has a crazy number of elves surrounding him, (probably giving him advice in their little midget-y voices). He looks like he is shocked at something one of them said about a kid waiting in line. SANTA: Should we bring Billy the new baseball glove OR that electric guitar he's been wanting? ELF: Billy burned down a barn this year.
ReplyDeleteAlso, do you know what could have made that moose pic even MORE awkward and also creepy? If the moose was actually a costume and there was a person inside, his hand was on your lower back area when you took the picture, and also, he was silent. Never said a word... just looked at you with his beady, vacant moose eyes when you said thanks for the picture. Then, a couple minutes later, you look back to steal one more glance as you're leaving, and he hasn't moved. He is still in the same spot and still staring directly at you. That would have been more awkward probably.
I Love "The Santa Claus House" Hubby and I visited in June 06 and we purchased a few gifts and had them shipped to our kids. My oldest is in the Navy and at the time he was in CA in training and he received the package and all over the package was stamped "from the North Pole" "From Santa" all the other guys teased him for months...especially since he was 19 and too "old" to believe...lol
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to visiting again!!
Sunny, yeah she was being real shy that day. Later when she looked at these photos she said, "I shoulda talked to him". Regrets, regrets. Just before I snapped the photo two grown people just got off his lap. Poor Santa. He must have been recovering.
ReplyDeleteHey and also you can't say "midget-y". Nope. Can't say it. Seems like we've been through this before.
Hey Miz Liz. Awww that is sweet. Mothers always do their best to embarrass their sons. Right? Makes 'em tougher.

Hey Hallie! Thanks for tuning in. I hope you'll keep tuning in. I don't always talk about Alaska, but since it is all new to us, so I tend to lean that way a lot!
