I found these heart shaped baskets at the thrift store for a low, low price.
Then Cupid and I added white coffee filters and cookies we baked (from the refrigerated foods section) topped with Hershey's kisses.
Then we passed them out to a few family members.
They might of (ok, they absolutely did) smell like spray paint and snickerdoodle.
Probably didn't help that I put them in a plastic bag in the trunk shortly after they were barely dry enough to touch.
In my defense, we added the cookies just before Cupid gave them away.
It's the thought that counts, right?
And the quality time spent making them with your children, right?
I hope so. Gosh. I REALLY hope so.
I found the following great idea here:
Kalleen even provided the printable for the "Love Juice" stickers.
I don't have a supply of pretty paper on hand, so I used an old wallpaper border I found at the thrift store. I thought it looked pretty Valentine's-ish, though Cupid disagreed.
Surprise, surprise.
We set up an assembly line.
I cut the paper from the wallpaper border and Cupid provided the tape.
I held the paper in place while she taped it to the bottle.
I rolled the tape for the labels and she stuck them to the Hawaiian Punch packets.
(Get self adhesive labels to skip this step.)
She counted 11 bottles and cut 11 lengths of ribbon.
She held the straw in place while I tied the ribbon around it.
It was fun. Cupid enjoyed it too.
She mostly enjoyed giving the "Love Juice" and watching the magic that happens when you pour the powder into the water.
Maybe that's because on a regular day I don't allow her to have flavored water.
Or caffeinated beverages.
Or sugar filled juice of any sort.
So. Yeah, she's a sheltered child.
She especially loved it when a few members of the family drank the love juice and were so overcome with love that they smothered her with hugs and kisses.
A Powerful Potion
In the end I thought the whole bottle could have looked more festive, (more red, more pink, more general cuteness) but I either used what I had or used what I could get for cheap. The goal was to provide thoughtful gifts for a few family members and to have fun with my daughter. I think we accomplished that.

I seriously wish I were as creative. The second I sew a project to...well, myself...or I superglue my fingers together, I be out of there.
ReplyDeleteOh Hayley, we just LOVED the cookies and Love Juice (remember Joseph drank 2 or 3 by himself). And, yes, the baskets smelled like spray paint, but they were so thoughtful & the cookies were good to. Also, you make so many fun memories for Charley - she will never forget these things that you do with her! You are such a wonderful mother!!!
