Not long ago the water was down. WAY down.
We had a lot of rain, so the dams were adjusted to prevent flooding.
It was great for more bank walking.
And some self portraits.
And some.... mussel busting open. In the name of science. Or discovery. Or something.
We like to think we rescued 8 other mussels when we found them on the dry bank and threw them back into the water. They might actually be able to move themselves into the water. They may have been ok without us. But that is how I justified beating this one against a giant rock and jabbing other sharp rocks into it to pry it open. Kill 1, rescue 8. That's how I sleep at night.

That's some good reasoning to try and sleep at night. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe dogs must be so well behaved. I never see them on leashes in your photos. I guess they just keep up with you guys?
Digging is always fun. When I was little my mom used to show me what was biodegradable and what wasn't by buring items in the yard, marking them with popcicle sticks, and then digging up the earth a couple of weeks later. It's a neat science experement.
WOW, Katie. Your Mom was awesome! What a cool idea. I am so going to do that. Also, I feel old after reading this. I don't even think the word biodegradable was invented when I was little.
ReplyDeleteYes the dogs are well behaved. Their primary goal it seems is to be with us to get lovin' so they hang around. My Friend occasionally runs ahead acting dogish but always come back when I call. When I walk on a busier street I leash him. Also, I leash him when there are other dogs in our path that cause My Friend to want to eat them (you see how I made this not My Friend's fault even though he is the aggressor?). He targets one dog in particular. I don't know why.
Jessie targets my old landlord, my new landlord, my upstairs neighbor, huge, mean dogs, toddlers, and old people. Soooooooo... THAT'S cool.
ReplyDeleteCan I just say that pic of you with the house in the background iiiiisss a little Psycho-ish? But purty. Real purty.
Yes, I can see the psycho-ness.
