After Irene

After weathering the storm, we decided to drive out to Mathews County
to see if our almost house was still standing.
It was.
Hallelujah
Though, we don't have power yet.
And that'd be ok, except the well water runs with a pump....
that requires electricity.
So, no electricity, no water.
Hotel life will continue for a couple more days.
But God willing,
we'll get our nest made soon.
I'd love to hear from all of you that were in the storm's path!

Stir Crazy

Today, I'm reminded of a bad case of cabin fever we lived through while in Alaska.

No, I don't wear make-up during hurricanes.
Though, I do wear shorts, despite the story that this picture tells.
(That means I AM wearing shorts, in case that wasn't clear.)

THIS face,
is in my face,
a good bit.

Poor, worn out dog. He's had to go outside to pee, like about 4 or 5 times today.
Then he's had to lay on this carpeted floor.
The thing that disturbs me is, he hasn't pooped since we left.
Just thought you should know.

Here, Chuck was trying to figure out the password.
Neither of us know what for.

Charley used to be less disgusted when I made her look into the camera.
I guess she is burned out.

Here she is trying to please me with "camera face".
"Camera face" was born of 2 year old Charley and always makes me happy.

We wait....

Now, we wait.
We wait for the storm to hit.
We wait to see how the hurricane will affect the home that is almost ours on Gwynn's Island.
The rain has saturated the ground around us, but so far the wind has been tolerable.
I hear it is going to pick up soon.
I hope all of you that are in the path of the storm stay safe!
Stay inside!

Skies Over Gloucester, Virginia

On the Road. Again.

Just a quick note to say, we've moved!

If you follow real close to one another,
it's totally ok if one speedometer quits working mid-way through the trip.
All you need is one.
I'm just sayin'.

This was pre-dog vomit explosion in the back, back.

Sweet innocence

We're in Virginia! Though, we aren't living anything resembling a settled life. Nothing whatsoever. We are in hotel #3 (#4 if you count the one in Newport News with mildewed furniture and scary characters that gathered outside at nightfall. We didn't sleep there.) We drove through an earthquake (we didn't feel it) to get here, and then checked into a hotel in hurricane-ville. Yes, Irene is coming. We are actually staying in a hotel in Gloucester; a town that the locals say we'll be "alright" in. I have to believe that too, because this is where the men with the utility trucks are gathering. They're ready. For what exactly I don't know, 'cause hurricanes aren't our thing. Now, tornados we know. Hurricanes, not so much.

So, please say a prayer for us
(and Chuck)
(and for My Friend)
(and for all the people in the hurricane's path)
(seriously)

Same day, two different dye jobs

Alright, alright...one of them is bleach.
Whatevvs

Preparing the Car Seat for Flight
I planned to check the car seat on our AL-VA flight, since we were going to need it for the long truck ride home. But only, it was really gross.

I couldn't bear the thought of all those baggage handlers (strangers) seeing it that dirty.
Embarrassing right?
But somehow posting here, on my blog (friends), makes sense to me.
After all, we gotta keep it real ya'll.
I don't want any of you thinking we are perfect over here in the Burns' Family with our taped up rear views and bungy corded bumpers, right? So here it is. Brace yourselves.

You KNOW yours is as dirty as mine.
No?
Ok, well yours must have BEEN this dirty at some point in the past.
DON'T YOU LIE TO ME!!!
I'm sorry.
I am just lashing out due to embarrassment.
I. CANNOT. NOT. BE. THE. ONLY. ONE.

So, I had this bright idea.
I was going to dye it black.
I thought it was the only color that would cover the gray/brown soiling.

I had to borrow a bucket from my dad.
We took the car seat cover off, dunked it, sloshed it, soaked it, poked it with a stick.
Annnnddddd....
it totally didn't work.
Apparently, all that stain resistance treatment (ha!) that was woven into the fabric repels dye.
SO, I said all this to say...
don't bother dying your car seat.
Though, all that dunking, sloshing, soaking, and poking did do some good.
It looks mucho better now.
I swear.
Now that you've seen our car seat, can our we still be friends?
