Chuck and I have been trying to fill Charley's days with special outings before the baby comes.
Since she and Chuck are such history buffs, we decided to check out Historic Jamestowne.
There was A LOT of walking involved, which wouldn't have been a big deal except for....
It's cool to live so close to these places where John Smith, John Rolfe. Pocahontas, and Chief Powhatan roamed. Though it was a bit disappointing to see a depiction of John Smith that totally shot mine and Charley's image from Disney's "Pocahontas" to heck and back.
Maybe he wasn't the blonde hunk of a man we thought.
Maybe
Isn't it totally interesting that over 400 years ago colonists arrived here, on the James River?
They erected structures like these (below) on this very spot!
We took a guided archaeological tour and even saw the location
where it is believed that Pocahontas married John Rolfe!
At this time, there are several active archaeological digs at Jamestown Settlement.
Though the guided tour wasn't her thing, after a looonnnggg trip through the museum Charley declared Jamestown Settlement worth the trip (1 hour drive). I've never seen a kid spend so much time in a museum! About history! History just never was my thing, so I am continuously impressed by her interest. She is her father's daughter.
