One night last weekend, the family was planning to watch Night at the Museum.
We've watched a good bit of T.V. lately.
You know, it's winter, there's a new baby, we live in Mathews...
Extracurricular options are limited.
Chuck and I were feeling the restlessness of this 7 year old babe. And the guilt from allowing her too much wallering-in-her-pajamas-time. So before the movie went in, we tried to think of correlating activity ideas. Chuck came up with this one...
MAKE YOUR OWN MUSEUM
Charley took the idea and ran with it.
Let me interpret.
"Old Nail"
"Andrew Jackson built the first building with this nail."
Let me just say, Charley has two styles of spelling. There's the kind of spelling when she's at school and wants to impress her teacher, and the kind where she's in a hurry and just wants the idea of the word to be on paper. These are "ideas" of words.
"John Smith's Fingerprint"
"John Smith was making a card and he didn't get to finish, but he did get to print his finger on it."
"Shark Tooth"
"While George Washington was walking on the beach he stepped on this tooth and got poked."
Whoa.
That's pretty amazing.
"Abraham's Blood"
Abraham was in war and this guy shot him in the arm and he bleeded on this paper."
"He. bleeded. on. this. paper." Oh. my. gosh.
"Indian Boots"
"These were worn by the famous baby Indian."
THE FAMOUS BABY INDIAN YA'LL!!!!
"Bat"
"This bat was the first vampire bat."
I feel like I'm in Ripley's Believe It or Not now, you guys. There's a lot of "firsts" here. Hmmmm."
"First Sand Dollar"
"One day Martin Luther King was walking at the beach and he found this artifact."
And you know, I was conflicted with this whole thing.
I know...WHY? right?
Lemme finish.
At first I thought, "Oh we are terrible parents because we didn't help her set this up. We didn't get involved." This is how I torture myself as a mother.
Because I'm a logical person, and I KNOW that this kind of "do it yourself" activity is GOLDEN. This, as a mother, is what I've been striving for all these years.
Charley is showing me and Chuck nearly everyday we are doing something right.
And that feels good. This day, she showed us we are raising an intelligent and creative little lady.
And you know what else?
We didn't even get around to watching that movie.
This was an awesome idea and Charley did an unbelievable job with it. It's so great that you are documenting it in this way Hayley. Keep up the good work guys.
