Early in the waterfowl hunting season, Chuck was enthusiastic about duck/goose hunting.
Eager to "bag some geese" he even invested in some new decoys.
But, Virginia Game and Fish laws being what they are, no Virginia geese (or ducks) were bagged. See, VA laws are in place to protect the good 'ol boys. The law states that you must be 500 yards from a registered duck blind in order to hunt. Well, guess what's every 500 yards on the water? A registered duck blind. Think there's even one, single available space for a newcomer? Nope. Not one. What's worse, a lot of people who build these duck blinds are simply landowners who have no intentions to hunt. They just feel entitled to control the area around their land so they purchase a blind license thus preventing waterfowl hunters from coming near their land. It's enough to make my blood boil. I don't know if Chuck's blood is boiling over it, but he's given up. After three seasons of scouting countless areas for hunting opportunities, he's done. He left his decoys, waders, and even his gun in Alabama. So now this guy, who introduced waterfowl hunting to so many, has to live without the hobby that practically defined him as an outdoorsman.
Thankfully, he did score some ducks when we were home for Christmas.
You want to see something sad but also beautiful?
Awwwww. This makes me very sad for Chuck. I didn't know he basically couldn't duck hunt there. That's his fav thing ever! I hope the next place y'all end up has a great place for him to do that.
