Okay, short story...
Charley had been in the habit of throwing out a basic "Thank you God for our food. Amen." when saying the blessin' before supper. To encourage her to talk to God, I now ask her to not only say thanks for the food, but to say thanks for one other thing, and to ask for specific help in either her or someone else's life.
A few months ago we found out that she was selected to attend a weekly "talent pool" which is a service offered by the Office of Gifted Education. We read the letter just before supper..."Teachers usually refer students who have demonstrated content mastery of the subject being studied in the classroom or students who are working beyond their grade level peers."
I'm such a proud Mama.
Charley's prayer that evening went like this,
"Thank you God for our food and let me be able to
answer all their questions in the pool of smartness."
My sweet little genius.

I was fortunate enough to be there and heard this precious prayer. She was dead serious and very sincere in her request. She had just been told and was a little nervous I think about having to do such a thing and hoped and "prayed" that she would do alright. Her way was saying "Please help me answer all the questions in the pool of smartness." I opened my eyes and would have burst out laughing if I hadn't seen the sincere and worried look on this precious 8 year old's face.
ReplyDeleteWell. This is sweet. And I am a very proud aunt, too. Charley is special. We've always known that.
