So my little Charley baby has been a little down and out lately. She is tired of school (that doesn't end here until June 13th), tired of this rental house (where she can't have a treehouse), and tired of not living near her family. And truthfully, I feel the same dang way. So in order to improve both our moods and increase our gratefulness, I told Charley we were going to go on a weeklong, after school, appreciate Virginia excursion. We thought of things we could only do in this part of Virginia (as opposed to in Alabama) and went about it all with happy hearts.
The first day we went to Beach Haven (seen on the blog prior to this one).
The weather was pleasant and it was so good to soak in some sunshine with my girls.
After the picture perfect kite flying guy and book reading, lounging lady left,
we had the beach to ourselves.
The following day we invited Charley's best friend over. This is the only place you can do that.

On Wednesday we tried to walk around downtown Mathews and visit the shops but quickly learned that all of them have a strict, small window in which they are open.
Thursday - Saturday from 11-3
REALLY PEOPLE??? 11 to 3?!?!
Our local pizza joint was open so I watched Charley and Bo
eat a piece of chocolate cake while I ate a salad.
That was fun.
Thursday was a total bust because we had to go to Target and I got lost on the way home
(it's like an hour from here into a land I know nothing about)
and I nearly melted down from total confusion and helplessness.
And on Friday, we visited Linda's Diner. This is a diner we can never catch open (same small window of opportunity) and when open it's always packed to the hilt. When we moved to the area our realtor raved about their burgers (that's what the locals call 'em...burgers).
On Friday evening the Virginia fun continued when Chuck
came home and we played on the beach till the sun set.
What a creative idea to combat the sadness. I'm proud of you sister. I hope it made everybody a little bit happier... Until you can move closer to family that is… PS I heard about your little meltdown. I hope you've learned how to navigate with that phone.
ReplyDeleteThat's great. Yeah, I got waze.
DeleteWonderful idea to beat the blues. And it looks like you had a great time. I chuckled at Bo's face when she saw the fish.
ReplyDeleteMy family just moved and is having a bit of a time getting used to the new surroundings. I think I need to plan a BIG Texas Summer, so we can stop missing Mississippi.
I hope you adjust better than we have RebelAngel! A BIG Texas Summer sounds like fun.
