What a beautiful day in Alabama! Today we went to the Chocolate Festival in Rainbow City; though the only chocolate I saw was in the form of a Tootsie Roll. Strange. The Food World parking lot was bustling with activity in the form of carnival rides, booths oozing BBQ and ribbon fries, live music, angry drivers, and tables filled with polka dotted ribbons and bows.
Upon arrival, Jack Sprat and I both hung on to some hope there would be a ride or two without missing bolts. Contrary to my fearless days of youth, I had prepared her to ride absolutely nothing at all, so we were both thrilled to find a handful of kiddy rides that were seemingly safe. I figured that even if these particular kiddy rides did veer off the tracks, no one would die, God willing, so, I let her on. End the end, it was worth the risk (but only because she survived), because she loved every second each $2.00 ticket bought her.
After mine and Granna’s dollars were spent, we had lunch in the shade and wandered from booth to booth. Thanks to Granna, Jack Sprat scored a girly bracelet with her named beaded in and a blob of paint on her cheek that held a slight resemblance to a flower. The girl who did the face painting wasn’t too many years older than Jack Sprat and her paint brush appeared to have come from the 1 cent aisle of The Dollar Tree, but it made Jack Sprat’s day so it was money well spent.
And…Craig lent me his camera today! Prepare yourself.

Chuck had an awesome Alaskan fishing experience today. After sitting over a hole in the lake for a while, he was approached by a Native American woman who offered up her fishing spot. She said she and her friends had caught their limit and were leaving for the day. Chuck gratefully eased himself on over there to that spot and shortly after, reeled in salmon he could brag about. When we last spoke he was on his way to get the corn meal.
Last Sunday while Chuck was fishing at the same lake, he met a nice lady who lived nearby. When she found out his family was in Alabama and he was alone in Alaska on Easter, she invited him to have supper with her family. How nice! Chuck had some work to do so he had to decline but he regretted it. I think Chuck and I both had a weird affliction that keeps us from accepting generous offers (from non-family members) because of that awkward factor. Now that I recognize it, I am going to work on getting over it. After all, it’s just silly and we will be needing some love in Alaska.

ReplyDeleteI am really going to love this blog when you go to AK. You'll have to use the flip camera and put videos on so I can see Jack Sprat............or is it Butterscotch today? Speaking of Blossom, she gathered a few toys for us to play with and put her fairy wings on me. Just when I was about to stand up to fly she changed her mind and wanted to wear the wings herself especially after I told her that I always wanted to fly. So she said I'll wear these wings and I'll make you some Granna. She went to get paper towels, tape and scissors....yes scissors and proceeded to make me some wings also. I was so happy. Then she said you can be the Waco fairy or the Crazy fairy Granna and I am going to be the I can do everything in the world fairy. My talent is doing everything in the world and yours is being waco. Then Mama Blossom joined in and the three of us were flying around spreading pixie dust on everything in the living room. Well except me of course the Waco fairy. I was flying around as you could imagine a Waco Crazy Fairy would. When we settled down I gave her a little granna advice about playing that game with her little friends in the future.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie. That's right. I have to work on that too.
ReplyDeleteLisa! I am so glad you are still tuning in! Thanks. You are an encourager. That must be her fairy talent Ma.
