On Sunday night, Chuck arrived home safely from the very long and very winding road. At last, he is finished with making that trip! And we have our stuff! I am incredibly grateful that he got back safely. The Alaska Highway is filled with danger and we are both super glad it is over. Thank you Lord!
So far, everything that I have opened is in pretty good condition....considering what it's been been through. I have found only one broken pitcher...so far.

So, here is our little cabin in the woods.
We’ve doubled our square footage (from 700 to around 1400).
I need some help with the trim colors. I happen to love the blue roof and the natural wood, but I am not a fan of the brown trim and white paint around the windows and doors. I want a lively color. I want a color that will lift spirits during the long, cold, white winters. Any suggestions?
I'll post some pictures of the inside when it doesn't look like someone picked up the cabin and shook it.

Very cute house! I am glad Chuck made it back good. I am glad you finally got your stuff and it is in good shape!
ReplyDeletePraise the Lord Chuck had a safe trip. (Ps 91:11) and I know you all are glad to have your things. I love the new cabin and I can just imagine how charming it will be when you get it decorated like you want it. You asked about trim colors. With a blue roof I think barn red would be neat. You know I like country colors- I think even a darker shade of blue would look good and you know I like blue. Your creative juices will start flowing. I really like green with a long cabin, but that probably would not go with a blue roof. Oh well... do it Hayley style.

I am proud Chuck made it safely but as his favorite mother-in-law here is my unsolicited opinion on that. He is pushing his luck way too much with the driving without sleep especially on treacherous roads not to mention the danger of sleeping in the truck. On a lighter note the cabin is very cute and I'm sure you will have it looking like a doll house very soon.
ReplyDeleteThe cabin is SO ADORABLE. Honestly, I'm surprised by how big it is. Makes me want to have one. It's really very cute. I love that you have all that property as well.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with your mom about Chuck. :( I assume Alaskan roads are not a picnic by any means, regardless of the weather. I'm glad he doesn't have to do that anymore. Hope you all are well up there. :)
Love the log cabin, it looks so cozy. And also love the fact that you finally got your stuff after such a long wait and so much hassle after the first attempt. As far as trim colors, I think a blue would be good as the roof would really compliment the trim and make it pop. Good luck with the settling in process. Just don't get overwelmed by it. I would continue to stay outdoors making nature soup and such as long as the sun is still shining and worry about all the indoor decorating during the long winter months.
ReplyDeleteThe girls miss their friend and they love see her pics as you update your posts.
LOVE the house! I second the vote for red, but also agree that another shade of blue would look good. Green would blend in too much...you might be able to find a yellow that would work though?
ReplyDeleteI say a different color brown for the trim. As close of a match to the logs as possible. Don't know about the doors and windows.
ReplyDeleteEstra - good point on Chuck pushing his luck. You are a good Mother-in-law.
ReplyDeleteI also thought a pretty shade of cream color would be nice for the trim. Don't ever ask my opinion, because I will certainly give it and then worry becasue I said the wrong thing. If you ask 10 women their opinion you will get 20 different responses.
Hayley - enjoy yourself and I know however you decide to decorate will be charming.
Thanks everybody!
ReplyDeleteThanks everybody!
ReplyDeleteAnd Janice, before I posted this I did a little research by typing something like "colorful log cabins" into google images and got an image of a lincoln log child's toy, with a blue roof and red trim! I bookmarked it!
ReplyDeleteIs jade green a crazy suggestion?

ReplyDeleteMom, what does Craig say?
ReplyDeleteThank the Lord Hershey the Bear made it back alright. Oh, and Chuck, too. But anyway, about Hershey.. I was wondering if he could maybe be the Bear Whisperer or like, the Siren of the Bears. He could lure them to their death with his beautiful song. That's mean. Sorry. I love animals, but bears are sceeeerrryyyy.
ReplyDeleteLeesen, my suggestion for the trim would be pretty, but involves a little work. Get new trim or strip the old and stain it a dark wood color. Then seal and protect it with something. Then, add cute little shutters of the same color, and that will make it look even more "on purpose" and put together. In fact, I think no matter what color you pick, adding something like shutters of the same color will help.
That's a "princess that is very very pretty and very very sweet and her name is Magnolia" picture of Charley. I'm glad Chuck made it back okay, too. I pick him over Hershey. I guess.
I am afraid I am not familiar with "siren of the bears" reference. Sounds, well, not like a good thing. I am going to forgive you for dragging my beloved Hershey into this evil twisted reference but I will not stand for it again. You understand me?
ReplyDeleteI dunno about that stripping suggestion..I don't know, I don't know. This is me shaking my head, refusing to believe it is a good suggestion because I don't WANT TO STRIP ANY WOOD!! Why do your suggestions always involve a large sum of physical or emotional investments?? Why sister, why?? This wood is saw raw like, I don't think it would take to stripping very well anyway. I can't imagine scrapping a flat edge across it. Would painting it a dark brown be similar?
Oh this is just such a sweet abode! I would paint the trim a goldenrod yellow or crimson red. Happy unpacking!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, I like those suggestions! I never thought of crimson red!

Craig said: I would research the colors of the native Eskimo Indians and trim it up in those colors. He is thinking they are red, white, black, yellow and blue. He would also add a totem pole. To get started here is a good link http://www.alaskanative.net/en/main_nav/education/culture_alaska/athabascan/
ReplyDeleteI am brand-new to your blog, and a total stranger, but I LOVE ALASKA - I worked in Denali for a summer in '94 and tried my best to find a permanent job and move there. But as a single mother of 4 at the time, it didn't work out - sigh. I'm a grandma now (well, not so old - 53) and still harbor that dream..... My oldest son lived in Anchorage for 5 years, is back in Texas for NOW, but plans to return to the place of his heart. SO - all that said, you go, girl! I so admire you moving your family there, and will follow your blog with such interest! Maybe I'll get back up there myself and see in person whatever color you trim that darling cabin out in! I vote for the shutters also, and say go bright! Color is fun and happy and cheerful and I understand 'round about February, you will appreciate that even more! I love the totem suggestion as well! From your blog, I am sure you will have a warm, cozy, BRIGHT and lovely home.
ReplyDeleteGod bless your family there!

Oh Anonymous, I love it when
ReplyDelete"total strangers" comment! It is fun for me to write the blog, and it is especially fun when people enjoy reading it. So glad you are tuning in. Hope you are able to return here if that is what you want. With winter upon us, I am REALLY struggling to remember these glorious days of summer so looking back to this post helps. Thanks.
