Packages

Our first package-o-love came straight from the Georgia in laws. It was full of miscellaneous objects, including a single packet of microwavable macaroni and cheese, pictures, several very southern t-shirts, hot hands, a local magazine with my brother-in-law jogging across the cover, and a purple hissing rat figurine. Gotta love those Georgia people.

Big Mama followed up with a genuine “Somebody Loves Me in Alabama” tee. Why did I always think Alabama missed out of that whole “somebody loves me in ...” craze? I never give Alabama enough credit. Big Mama also added some brown paper lunch sacks printed with princesses. Anything with princesses is good around here.

After a few weeks here in Alaska and after visiting more than a few grocery stores and discovering only plain grits, Charley put out an emergency broadcast to Big Mama for some cheese grits. Big Mama got to work immediately and before long we had a priority box full of 5 containers of cheese grits. There ain’t nothin’ funnier than a priority mail box full of cheese grits. I knew we could count on Big Mama for that.

Next up, I received a wonderful cookbook surprise from my sweet Aunt Janice and Uncle Charlie. After reading a post a while back about not having any kitchen skills or a even a cookbook, they took action and shortly after “The Blue Willow Inn, Bible of Southern Cooking” arrived at the Delta Junction post office. Wasn’t that thoughtful?

Just yesterday we received two boxes in one day! One was filled with cute little girl clothes and ballerina shoes from Mom and Craig. Since Charley believes she is living with a shortage of comfortable pants, when the contents were revealed she enthusiastically hollered “PANTS!” They also enclosed a book mailed to our old address from good old Dolly Parton. Gotta love that Dolly.

Dad and Judy sent the other packed with a variety of barrettes, cups, skin so soft bug spray and sunscreen, and a disposable camera. Judy also enclosed an envelope for the exposed camera so that when Charley is finished taking pictures we can drop it in the mail for developing. After the pictures are processed they will be sent straight to Dad and Judy. Isn’t that a great idea? The camera was our favorite part of the box.

You forgot to mention my care package. It was a bountiful supply of knuckle sandwiches. Priority mail, of course. Did you not get it yet? Ma, what up with that?? I thought Priority was 2 to 3 days! Geez, Alaska is too dang far.

What a sweet blog. I have never done very much for you, but no matter how small the gift, you are always so appreciative and enthusiastic. You are such a blessing.
