Once my Dad and his wife, Judy, bought Charley a Karaoke machine.
Satis-FACTION
And everybody who knows Chuck, knows he loves the mic.
Doesn’t matter that once, at a place called the Econo Lodge Pub, a man named Buddy told him he “couldn’t carry a wet paper tune in a wet paper sack.” (Yes, those were his words exactly.)
The man loves a microphone.
And Charley loves the dance floor.
And the spotlight.
Just like her Daddy.
So, uh, Daddy would you, uh, pipe down?
(This is her, politely directing the attention back to herself.)
She thinks she's the Lord of the Dance. (Is this sacrilegious?)
It seems fitting since she was begat of Shirley Temple's double.
That's me.
MAN, I could tap out a jig at her age.
Never needed nary a lesson.
(sarcasm font all above)
Chuck was later allowed to MC,
if the primary focus was the dancing girl.
After the show, we were both allowed to “get a closer look” of the star of the show. This is where the star (Charley) comes up to each individual at the show (me and her Daddy) and stands really still while we look at her face very closely. “Getting a closer look” was invented by Charley a few years back.
So…maybe were guilty of feeding her ego a little much.
MAYBE
But I'd say too MUCH self confidence is WAY
better than too LITTLE self confidence.
Wouldn't you?
(I mean, provided your note a jerk about it.)

This is awesome!! You and Chuck are such wonderful parents. That child will have all the confidence in the world because she has no doubt that she is truly loved and THAT is why she will be confident. Thank you so much for these wonderful posts. It's not as good as being there by any means. Skype would be second but since your internet connection does not allow that :( this blog is a very wonderful third. Thanks and I love you.
ReplyDeleteTHE PUB! Ahh, memories. I've busted out many an "Ice Ice Baby" there. I heard it the ol' Econo Lodge is a retirement home now, so I'm guessing the Pub is gone.
ReplyDeleteLove this one--so many stars in one family! :o)
Too cute! Looks like fun!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this one!! Hahahaha hilarious. I thought Buddy said Chuck couldn't carry a "wet paper tune in a wet paper BUCKET". But I could be wrong. I cannot believe this "closer look" thing she came up with. That is veeeeeedddy interesting. Love the pics on this one. So cute.
