" />" width="500" height="214" alt="ccb" />" />The ride back to Virginia much easier than the ride to Alabama. Prolly because we had one less person therefore, more space (sorry sister). It also helped that we actually left in the wee a.m. hours so to minimize the nighttime driving. Leaving early was an absolute first for our family. Strange that it took us so long to get on that sensible bandwagon.
I remember beach trips from long ago, where my parents would carry my sister and I from the bed, while still in our gowns, and place us into the car. We'd sleep the majority of the ride. Come sunrise, we'd be really close to our destination. Smart parental move.
It only took Chuck and I six years to catch on. Though, our kid doesn't sleep in vehicles. She didn't give us even one little nap. Get this...about 2 hours in, she starts asking if we're close. We just laugh (maniacally) and tell her things like, "NO WHERE NEAR!", DON'T EVEN THINK OF IT AGAIN UNTIL IT IS BEYOND DARK OUTSIDE!" "GET READY TO SIT IN THIS TRUCK ALLLLLL DAY!" "WHEN WE GET BACK IT'LL BE PAST YOUR BEDTIME!" You know....helpful, mood lifting, stuff.
As wonderful as our Alabama trip was, it is comforting to be back home again.
Especially now that it seems more like a home than a dorm room.
You see, when we left Alabama, thanks to Mom and Craig, Aunt JoAnn, and Aunt Sylvia,
I felt like we had won the Showcase Showdown.
We almost have a house full of furniture now.
Isn't that AMAZING news??
Hauling it back took another full size U-Dang-Haul trailer and a lot of heavy lifting, but it was totally worth it. TOTALLY worth it.
This configuration of furniture was one of MANY
before we finally found an arrangement that makes sense.
Maybe one of these days I'll show ya'll. But not yet. No way.
Trying to make all of these dissimilar pieces mesh, will be a challenge.
I still have to paint the walls, work up the courage to upholster a couch, and paint a coffee table.
Oh and I am considering doing something extreme to that rug.
Also, I'd love to rip up the carpet and see what lies beneath. I am 98% sure it's hardwood.
I'm also 98% sure it is in horrible condition.
I'm 100% sure Chuck will be against it.
I'm 99% sure I will start ripping it out spontaneously when he's not around.
I wouldn't start ripping until I had some money to hire them refinished or buy new carpet. To just start ripping is well ...uh well I won't say that to my adult daughter. You should be able to see what is underneath your carpet at the vents in the floor.
ReplyDeleteI freely admit that the second I suspected we had hardwood underneath the ugly carpets in our GA house my poor hubby came home from work to find the carpet ripped from the dining room to halfway across the living room, hehe. Yes, true, it was in rough shape...but a nice rug covered it until I could refinish it. Rented a sander over one weekend and did that part, then just worked parts at a time staining..then a weekend with lots of fans to seal it up.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your trip back was better, poor Charley:( I would not be able to keep Jordan calm that long, but you have seen him in action, I think you understand...again, we are greatful ya'll made the trip here and back to daily life & it is nice to see that you are thrilled about the new-to-you stuff! Guy would be against ripping the carpet up too - but you won't know until you look!

I'm a 100% sure you are 100% capable of refinishing any floor under the carpet. I would wait until the weather is such that you can open every window in the house to air out the dust that you will make with a floor sander. If you rent your sander before the weekend, most places allow you to only pay for a one day rental and you get to keep it for the entire weekend which is much more floor for the money. Waiting for it to get warmer to do this will also give you much more nagging time where Chuck will want to give in rather than listen to it anymore. lol.
