Yes, a dirt collection.
When I tell people that we have a dirt collection, they just laugh and laugh.
But, there is something special about our dirt collection.
It is way more special to us than any trinket,
snow globe, or spoon we could buy at a souvenir shop.
Our dirt collection tells a story.
We generally don't accept dirt unless we collect it personally,
but this Colorado trip so fascinated Charley, we were happy to receive it.
And isn't it sweet for a Daddy to go to the trouble bring home dirt for his little girl?
I remember it was especially hard to find dirt in California.
We had to run across the street and steal some
from someone's retaining wall in Hollywood Hills.
Sometimes we forget to collect it until we are driving out of town. We'll stop at a gas station, jump out and use whatever tool and bag we can find to dig a couple of scoops out of the landscaping.
It is interesting to see how much dirt can differ from one place to another.
And it is nice to be reminded of those places
that will always hold a special place in our hearts.

ReplyDeleteYou are definitely Nanny's granddaughter. Very sweet and fun thing to do with Charley.
ReplyDeleteI love your dirt. I knew about you collecting it, but I never knew about the pretty little jars, ribbons & tags! I think it is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIn Geology in college, we studied soil for quite a long time. I actually found it very interesting. I think collecting dirt is kinda cool. I like your jars and labels, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea! We'll have to start doing this! :D
ReplyDeleteThis is very creative! Thank you for sharing with Design Dazzle!
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to do this for ages, but kind of felt weird. Now that I know someone else is as crazy...I mean sentimental and off-beat...I will go for it!
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to do this myself. Too bad I waited too late in life. I envy you for this. Nice job!
