And in contrast...
Yeah, I have one baby just trying to make it 8 hours without needing a diaper change and a bottle, and another who gets married while she's at school.
Charley and her boyfriend decided they'd like to throw themselves a wedding. They even picked out a preacher. The morning of the wedding, Charley was so excited. I helped her pick out a dress and get all beautified. Because I didn't want her to be let down, I prepared her for disappointment.
I told her that her wedding may not play out like she saw it in her head. I know she has a history of planning elaborate activities and sometimes the other kids don't understand their very specific role.
It's frustrating.
She'd been trying to get her group of boyfriends to huddle all year!
They. never. would.
But one day when she played with the girls instead, she was AMAZED to find that when she said "let's huddle!" the girls huddled!!
She's learning there's a big difference in girls and boys in that regard.
So, thankfully when Charley's teacher heard about the wedding, she helped them organize the rest of the wedding party. They had a bridesmaids, groomsmen, a ring bearer, a flower girl, and a couple of cooks. The rest of the class served as the audience.
Their teacher was even nice enough to photograph the event.
I just love a teacher who doesn't get bent out of shape when kids want to pretend "grown up" kind of things. It seems so many teachers tend to overreact these days. And while I am sure their reaction is a direct result of the feedback they've received from over-reactive parents, it sure is nice when a teacher recognizes that little girls just want to do "big girl" things.
Why not help a little girl's, little dreams, come true?

DeleteCharley is so funny. I love that her teacher let her get married during class. All we could do was not eat the paste and stay on our own mat at nap time lol.
