Valentine

This Valentine's Day, Charley and I managed to spend a little time in the kitchen during one of those moments when Bo was content to sleep somewhere other than on my body.

We cooked up some...

Red Velvet Sandwich

Cookies with Cream Cheese Filling

I got the recipe from Jamie Cooks It Up!

I really love this website. Jamie dumbs cooking down for me, posting a picture of every step. In fact, I love her website so much that I cooked THREE of her chicken recipes last week alone!
That was a huge deal for me.

Our cookies didn't turn out exactly like the ones on her site, but we didn't care.

Sweet little thing

Speaking of sweet stuff, Charley decided to make everyone in her class a card for Valentine's Day. Now, these cards weren't your typical Barbie or Dora style. These were full on, folded construction paper, 1-3 sentence, cards. Charley and I normally try to do some type of homemade Valentine's together, but when she whipped out the construction paper and started making her own, I did not interfere.
No 'mam.

And because I think my kid is such a riot, I am going to show you some of the highlights.
(I've added punctuation and corrected some spelling.)

Mrs. Sterne,
I wish you could be my teacher for all the grades. Actually you're the best teacher I ever had.

Hey Henry,
I can't believe I am saying this, but I always had a crush on you!
There I said it.
I hope you have a good Valentine's Day.

Hi Robby,
If you would stop yelling sometimes, I would appreciate it.
Happy Valentine's Day
(It is important to note here that "appreciate" was spelled "epresheat.")

Hey Malachi,
Did you mess up my name tag?
But that doesn't matter.
It's Valentine's Day man.

And my favorite:
(I had to alter the photograph to this crazy color because a bad flash reflection.)

Translation:
Hey, I'm not quite sure that you got the rules yet, but learn them.
Please note that learn them = "lrnum"

And to top the love fest off, in the corner of the card, I see...

Yeah.
butt

So, needless to say, this card did not make the cut.
I told Charley that while I understand this boy doesn't always treat her the way she wants to be treated, Valentine's Day is the day for love. Let's show this boy some love.

She made a new card:

Hey Austin.
You're not too shy for a new kid.

Huh.
I guess I'll accept that.
Design I

School Party!

Don't you still remember exchanging Valentine's with your classmates?
I don't know why it was such a big deal, but it was!
It still is....

A Valentine from her boyfriend.

No lack of confidence here.
"Asum" = Awesome

Bo was there too. She slept soundly in her carrier for most of the party.

Hey and just in case you have girls too, these earrings are actually craft supplies from Oriental Trading Company. They come with a sticky back, so I thought, HEY SELF! Why not use them as earrings! Unlike some "real" sticky back earrings she's had in the past, these stayed on ALL DAY.
And they weren't overly sticky either. They didn't irritate her ears at all.
