Geocache

I can't convince the family to geocache often. I think it stems back to when I didn't have the smartphone and I was trying to use a handheld GPS and I didn't know what I was doing and it was a hassle. These days though, I'm all current and use an actual geocaching app with a built in compass. On this day, that compass took us to the greatest cache hidey hole yet. It was a literal hole down inside a holly tree! (Holly TREES are also a cool non-Alabama thing that we've enjoyed discovering here in Virginia.) So anyway, I think Charley enjoyed this geocache hunt.

I think geocaching would be easier in a place that is more familiar, that way we could read the description, immediately understand the general location and travel there without the aid of the compass. Then we'd pull out the compass to find the cache once we're there.

But geocaching in a new area is a great way to discover new places
and spend time doing family things you wouldn't have otherwise.

I mean we are up in a tree finding treasure!

And the loot? Junk. As expected.
It's not the prize. It's the hunt.

And geocaching provides an opportunity for Charley is wearing her adventure gear so that's good.
:)

And since all trees are all personal friends of mine,
I loved having the opportunity to do a little bit of climbing too.

Hey y'all. We're up in a tree. I pulled the baby up here too. She is balanced precariously on a branch between my legs. I'm praying I don't drop her. And I ain't got no make-up on but let's take a picture because, hey, we're all three up in a tree at the same time. Hey.

And then we walked to the water and all took turns balancing on a beam and skipping rocks.

Fun family times for sure.

Them's good family times. I admire that adventure. I've never done geocaching. It would be lots more cool if there was real treasures in there but… I guess you're right. It's the climb. (literally)
